Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) adopted a parental notification policy that requires school employees to notify parents if their children ask to be referred to by a name or pronouns that differ from their gender at birth or to access sex-segregated school programs or bathrooms for the opposite gender.
On April 10, 2024, the California Department of Education filed a writ of mandate against RUSD, alleging that the District’s policy unlawfully discriminates against students. California Justice Center and Liberty Justice Center are representing RUSD in defense of its constitutionally sound parental notification policy.
A stay in this case was recently lifted in light of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Mirabelli v. Bonta. A hearing is now scheduled for September 18, 2026.
